OPERA AT THE CINEMA: Macbeth

Prophecies, ambition and a thirst for power: immerse yourself in Macbeth’s tragic fate through Giuseppe Verdi’s operatic adaptation of Shakespeare.

After a victorious battle, Scottish general Macbeth encounters three witches who predict that he will become king. Troubled by the prophecy and urged on by the ambitious Lady Macbeth, he decides to take fate into his own hands, murdering King Duncan and seizing the throne. But the power he so desperately desired comes at a price. Haunted by guilt and the fear of losing his crown, Macbeth gradually descends into a spiral of violence and madness.

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s famous tragedy, Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Macbeth combines passion, darkness and powerful music. This Metropolitan Opera production from New York is directed by Louisa Proske, with Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting. A legendary story to rediscover at the cinema in all its dramatic intensity.
