Rougemont Bread Oven

Every Wednesday during school holidays, the Rougemont bread oven comes back to life with organic bread, savoury tarts and sweet treats available by pre-order.

In the heart of Rougemont, the historic bread oven keeps a long-standing tradition alive and showcases ancestral baking expertise passed down through generations. Built in the 18th century and brought back into operation for the village’s 900th anniversary celebrations, this emblematic heritage site comes alive during school holidays thanks to the dedication of passionate volunteers.

Every Wednesday, the aroma of wood-fired baking fills the village streets. Visitors can order organic wood-fired bread, an authentic sourdough loaf made by La Marendaz using organic flour from the Pays-d’Enhaut, milled at Le Moulin des Moulins. The tarts are also prepared using an organic pastry dough made by La Marendaz.

Savoury options include quiche Lorraine, pizza, onion tart and cheese tart, while those with a sweet tooth can enjoy cream, apricot or pear tarts. New recipes and specialties are regularly introduced throughout the season, inspired by local ingredients and the creativity of the volunteer team. A wonderful opportunity to rediscover authentic flavours while supporting a living tradition that continues to bring generations together.
